Below is a video of me teaching myself a variation for ballet. The phrase is from Alexander Ekman’s amazing ballet titled “Play”. It is a completely unconventional and stunning work (with a massive budget for production). I really love what I refer to as the giselle scene, and asked if for my midterm I could learn this variation instead of one from the list provided. Unfortunately, I was compromised by a ankle injury in this video (no deep plies or jumps) but I am SO excited to show it to my class. This was a feel good moment for me because I have a very short history with ballet in my body, but I would love to learn more about it. One day I’ll hopefully get to take pointe, just to see if I can do it! The original phrase is set on pointe; I am hopeful to do it justice! This video isn’t perfect, but I am so lucky to be living the dream a little bit! I recognize how a few years ago I wouldn’t know where to start as far as teaching myself a phrase from video, let alone have enough balletic training to be able to understand what it is I am seeing! Mistakes are in the video, but I think that’s okay for now.
